The court assigns cases based on where the parties live. Babylon is in the western part of the county, so cases usually go to Central Islip. The court handles child custody, visitation, child support, paternity, adoption, guardianship, domestic violence petitions, juvenile delinquency, PINS, and child abuse and neglect. Divorce is under Supreme Court jurisdiction only.

Babylon Family Court Services

The Suffolk County Family Treatment Court in the Cohalan Court Complex at Central Islip provides services to parents who were found neglectful due to substance abuse. The program combines judicial supervision with treatment, mental health services, and family support. The goal is to get parents into recovery while keeping children safe and in stable environments.

The court has a Facility Nursery for children ages one to thirteen. It can watch up to eight children at a time from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Library Resource Program offices at both locations offer court rules, sample forms, and computer stations. Do-It-Yourself form programs help you fill out family court paperwork online.

Official forms are free from the courthouse or the NYS Courts forms page. NYSCEF e-filing works for custody, visitation, guardianship, paternity, and support cases. Transcripts can be ordered up to five years after a hearing through authorized transcription firms.

Under Family Court Act Section 216-a, the clerk in each county maintains all official court records. The clerk's office provides forms to anyone who asks and can answer basic procedural questions.
